How many of you saw a tree within this billion year-old stone? I’ve been seeing this tree since I was a child, when my father named this stone Old Redwood.
Since this new year began, I have been steeped in the symbolism and synchronicity of trees, and they have helped heal and re-root my being in ways I could never have imagined.
So why not spend some time with the trees and all they offer to nourish us humans physically, psychologically and spiritually?
This dependence on trees is no accident, they literally were our home in the days of our hominid ancestors who were arboreal (tree bound). Ever wonder why your fingers prune up when wet and you startle awake sometimes with a fear of falling? This is your ancient wiring allowing you to keep your grip on tree branches even with wet hands, and to awake in time to keep you from the ground.
A climate change at the time (the Ice Age) shrank the primal forests forcing us to our ground-bound destiny. But our connection to trees has never shrunk away.
Deep roots draw water and minerals all the way up to the leaves of a tree. The leaves absorb sunshine and carbon dioxide. My metaphoric reflections ran with the relationship that roots and branches have with each other.
