“Be humble for you are made from the dung of earth. Be noble for you are made from the dust of stars.” ~Serbian Proverb

Her arms outstretched

Open to the Sky

In her lap she holds

The Child.

Together they witness

the Star

and the blessing

Of its Warmth

Do you see a mother and child in this stone image, or do you see something else?

Emerging into this New Year, fresh from the holidays, the image of mother and child has hung all around us in the familiar depiction of Mary and Jesus. This is an archetype that extends into our even more ancient past as humans. The Egyptian God Horus, who is noted to have the birthday of December 25th, was shown with his goddess mother Isis in a statuette created between 2000 to 1000 BCE. The ancient Egyptians attributed Isis to the bright star seen around midnight near New Year’s day, now known as the star Sirius.

And so, this 24th stone card is dedicated to the Star Mother.

Isis with her son Horus. Her crown is made of cow horns which hold a sun disc - further connecting Isis to the theme of the star.

In the Story Through Stone Reflection Card deck, this card follows the card of Upheaval and a series of card images that relate to the Tarot archetypes of the Tower. 2024 and even the early hours of 2025 have reflected unrest, violence and turmoil.

The Star Mother, and her paralleling Tarot card The Star, offers a period of peace, recovery and respite after a particularly rough period of change.

Divination

This is a time to surrender and deepen your trust in the divine. Seek gentle protected play to rekindle your imagination and connection with all that holds you. Recognizing your own “star nature” while also maintaining a grounded humility. Embrace these apparently contradictory aspects of your being - light and earthy shadow. Experience the illumination of star- consciousness right here on the earthly plane, knowing that you and all you see is made of this primordial dust of stars. Recognize how it is manifesting in everyday ways. Pursuing self-knowledge by trusting your intuition and your deep spiritual sense. Pay attention to dreams and dialogue with the figures that come to you. “Hold” your dreams in the imagination, so that they may grow and impact your manifestations.
